Offered here is a truly beautiful, very original and very rare 1979 Series 2 Daimler Double Six Vanden Plas.

Finished in lovely 'Mistletoe Green' metallic with a 'Tuscan' leather interior by Vanden Plas of Kingsbury, the car has covered just 40'000 miles from new and is in excellent original condition throughout.

The bodywork is truly beautiful and appears almost completely rust and rot free. The paintwork has a lovely deep shine, the panels are super straight and panel gaps excellent. It is clear that the car has been garage protected throughout its life and this has done a wonderful job of preserving it. The car has never had any welding repair and is structurally, one of the best we have seen.

The interior is in a similar superb condition. The leather seats show virtually no wear and the carpets and wood cappings are excellent.  All the original features remain and almost all work as intended including stereo radio cassette, electric windows x 4, remote mirror adjust, heater/cooling blowers etc. The electric aerial is not currently operating correctly and doubtless the air-conditioning system will require a service. The cabin is super comfortable and is a real time warp. The feel and smell of the wood and leather is very evocative.

The chrome and bright work is also very good, with some very minimal age related light patina, it is free from any heavy deterioration or tarnish. The bumpers are all level and straight and free from any dings or damage.

The car is fitted with original specification Jaguar/Daimler pressed steel wheels, chrome plated and with Daimler hub caps. All are in excellent condition and shod with brand new tyres.

On the road the Daimler performs superbly. Just as you would expect of a low mileage, cared for example. The car starts without hesitation, without any smoke and settles immediately into a steady idle. The 5.3 V12 delivers ample power and the gearbox changes smoothly and without hesitation. The suspension, ride and handling are classic XJ, super smooth with no noticeable knocks or clunks. Taking a drive in a good XJ is a very pleasant experience and this one doesn't disappoint! It drives very very nicely indeed. Under the bonnet is presented in its original condition and is commensurate with a 40 year old vehicle.

The car comes with an excellent service record and has had just 4 previous keepers, the current having owned the car for 30 years. Prior to this, the car was chauffeur driven in the London area for the majority of its early years. There are lots of if not all, old MOT certificates to help back up mileage as well as historic invoices for repairs and maintenance servicing.

In conclusion, this is a truly excellent and original example of a very rare car. It is believed to be one of the very last 'Series 2' cars to be sent to Vanden Plas of Kingsbury to have their unique colours, trims and details added. Similar cars are very very difficult to find particularly with such a low genuine mileage. This car is undoubtedly one of the best and most original available for sale.

This car has covered only 1000 miles in the last 30 years and was last taxed in 1994 and whilst we have just renewed all 4 brake calipers/associated pads including parking brake, tyres, as well as some other sundry items needed for a fresh MOT, the car would doubtless benefit from further recommissioning. It is however, perfectly useable as it is.

It is ready for a new owner to enjoy it and it will be supplied with a fresh oil service and a full detail valet.
